I
often get asked to write about all kinds of medical issues which
would keep me busy for the rest of my life. That is not a bad
thing. I know that African Americans have all kinds of medical
issues that need to be written about in a way that lay people
can understand, at least from my perspective. When I get asked
to do this, I am, indeed, flattered. However, Closing the Gap
in Health Care may not always be the forum for this. We are
really dedicated to address the health disparity topics. Sickle
cell anemia, Lupus, and Sarcodosis, just to name a few, are
all important issues and yes, Black folk have a lot of these
diseases, but they are not health disparity issues. We can talk
about these issues to make you more informed, but be aware that
the disparity issues are diabetes, hypertension, heart disease/stroke,
HIV/AIDS, cancer, infant mortality, kidney disease, mental illnesses
and life style issues. Thanks for all of your great feedback.
It makes this service well worth it. I am Dr. Thaddeus John
