Ladies, if you did not read last week's health
tip on mammograms, please go back and read it because it could
save your life. I cannot say it enough - breast cancer is real.
A nationwide breast cancer study is underway and the study needs
a large number of African American and other minority women
to participate.
The Sister Study is designed to find out how
the environment and genes affect the development of breast cancer.
The study results will help the medical profession assure that
future generations of women, including our daughters, granddaughters,
and nieces will not be disproportionately impacted by what is
now a major cause of death for African American women. Researchers
are committed to including in the study a large number of African
American and other minority women from all walks of life. The
last time I checked, only about 350 women from South Carolina
are participating in the study.
If you are between the ages of 35 and 74 you
can participate in this landmark study conducted by the National
Institute of Environmental Health Science. I invite you to go
WWW.sisterstudy.org or WWW.estudiodehermanas.org or call 1-877-SISTER
for more information on the study. Sista, Sista, this is your
chance to make a difference. I am Dr. Thaddeus John Bell---
Closing the gap in health care.
