Oral Sex in Teenagers & Young Adults

Oral sex among teenagers is commonplace. Many teenagers who report that they do not engage in conventional sex say they have tried oral sex because it is safer. However, let me give you some facts that you may not know.

Teenagers who engage in oral sex are at risk of contracting STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases). Gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and herpes can be contracted through oral sex if the sexual partner has been exposed. Unknown chlamydia infections are very common among sexually active teenagers. It has been reported that in some instances HIV/AIDS has been contracted through oral sex, although this is not a common occurrence.

I was told recently that there is an oral sex condom on the market. Evidently, the oral condom is popular among teenagers and college students who engage in oral sex behavior, but I am not aware of any studies that can validate its use in preventing the transmission of STD’s. With regular condoms not being used as often as they should be among people in general, I can’t help but wonder if the oral condom is being used effectively by young people engaging in oral sex. Talk to your physician and get treated if you have symptoms of an STD.
