One size fits all, no good for African Americans.

Many physicians have taken the one size fits all approach when it comes to treating African American. The development of the new drug BiDil a drug that works best in African Americans for the treatment of Heart failure has recently been released. The development of BiDil is just the beginning of drugs that studies show will have better outcome for black people. The good news about about this new research is that physicians will now have to consider your race in treatment. Don’t assume that your race is taken into consideration in all cases. The bad news is that many African Americans want care one way or another if race is consider and that is a tragedy of major proportion. Here is an example where race is very important. African Americans males have lower PSA associated with a higher prevalence of prostate cancer than our white brothers. The same goes for certain medications in among females and older vs. younger people . I am Dr. Thaddeus John Bell closing the gap in health care. 7/6/05
