Thank
God there is a Grace Period. If you have been like me, you have
been told a time or two that your insurance is now in the Grace
period. I was thinking there is a grace period in medicine also.
The
other day I was talking to a man about a medical problem and
he began to tell me all of the reasons why his lifestyle was
a mess. I had already told him that he was a pre-diabetic several
weeks ago. He did not look like a man who had taken the information
he was given seriously. He had no obvious signs or symptoms
of diabetes and was in what I call the "Grace Period"
of diabetes. Grace periods can be long or they can be short
and, if you are unlucky, there is no grace period. If you have
been told that you have pre- diabetes, you are on a path regarding
your health where diabetes is the next stop. You should use
that time to educate yourself about the changes that you will
have to make in your life and begin making them. Risk factors
for pre-diabetes are family history, obesity, a history of inactivity,
and a history of smoking. When the grace period is over, it's
over.
