Cynthia
Elaine Alston
“Theodosia”
Cynthia
Elaine Alston is the daughter of Alonzo and Martha Alston. She
is a native of Givhans, SC. She is a graduate of Summerville
High School and South Carolina State University where she received
a B.S degree in Social Welfare/Sociology. Upon graduating from
State, Cynthia began her career at Alston Middle School working
with the Emotional Handicap Middle School students. A year and
a half later, she was offered the position of being the first
Literacy Coordinator for Dorchester County. Cynthia held the
position until May of 1989 in which she decided to broaden her
horizon and explore the media industry.
She began her radio career at WWWZ (Z-93Jamz) as an account
executive. The character “Sister Theodosia” was
introduced to the Charleston community in June of 1989 on Z-93
Jamz. She brought lots of laughter to the Tri-County area for
many years. Her warm personality enables her to relate to anyone
no matter how young or old. Cynthia (Sister Theodosia) currently
works for Citadel Broadcasting as an account manager where she
vows to stay until she retires or wins the lottery. (Smile)
Cynthia recognizes that she can do all things through Christ
that strengthens her but also recognizes that there is a curve
called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called
friends, red lights called enemies, caution lights called family.
You have flats called jobs. But you have a spare called determination,
an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, and a
driver called Jesus. You will make it to a place called success.
Guess what? She has made it! She is very active with her church,
the Vice president of the Summerville Alumnae Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Chairperson of the Black Church Week
of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, committee member of Bell
& Schlau, board member for Bright Hope Academy, and accepts
many speaking engagements as “Theodosia”. Cynthia
is also the voice that is heard on the “Cephus”
series of Closing the Gap in Healthcare!
