Common misinformation about health
I have been a
family physician for more than 25 years. I have heard some interesting
perceptions from my family practice that deserve to be chronicled.
Of course all of these are wrong. I hope you don’t have
these perceptions.
1) What you do to your body when you are young makes no difference
as you grow older.
2) Exercising on a regular basis doesn’t really pay big
dividends. It’s just for people who are trying to lose
weight.
3) Going to the Doctor for preventive care is a waste of time.
4) The best place to get your health information is from a friend
or family member who has the same symptoms as you.
5) Most folk who are really obese are obese because they have
gland problems.
6) A medication should be taken with caution because the side
affects or greater than the benefits.
7) Black folk don’t visit minority physicians because
most of them are incompetent.
8) As long as one feels good there is really no need to see
a physician.
9) Happiness has no effect on the long term health.
10) Depression equals craziness so one needs to keep things
that make them depressed to themselves.
